We are responsible for the preparation and integrity of the consolidated financial statements appearing in our Annual Report. The consolidated financial statements were prepared in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States and include amounts based on management’s estimates and judgments. All other financial data in this report have been presented on a basis consistent with the information included in the financial statements.
The Organization maintains a system of internal controls that is designed to provide reasonable assurance as to the fair and reliable preparation and presentation of the consolidated financial statements, as well as to safeguard assets from unauthorized use or disposition. The internal control system is supported by formal policies and procedures, which are reviewed, modified and improved as changes occur in confirm to the new NGO-law. The Organization’s commitment to proper selection, training and development of personnel also contributes to the effectiveness of the internal control system.
The Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, which is composed solely of outside directors, meets periodically with members of management, the internal auditors and the independent auditors to review and discuss internal accounting controls and accounting and financial reporting matters.
The independent auditors review and evaluate the internal control systems and perform such tests on those systems, as they consider necessary to reach their opinion on the organization consolidated financial statements taken as a whole. In addition, International Humanitarian Assistance’s internal auditors perform audits of accounting records, review accounting systems and internal controls and recommend improvements when appropriate.
Although there are inherent limitations in the effectiveness of any system of internal controls, we believe our controls will provide reasonable assurance that the financial statements are reliable and that our assets are reasonably safeguarded.
